My University is near downtown with all the night life attractions. But occasionally we have a lot of events going on. But overall it is a good happy medium.
Overall the rules at Marian are fairly strict, but in my experience the people in authority do a really good job at listening to students and not punishing them without a good idea about the situation. Marian does have a dry and tobacco free campus. I haven't heard about anyone getting caught with either alcohol or tobacco, so I don't really know how badly they would actually be punished, but the official rules are fairly strict in that regard. I've yet to meet someone in authority at Marian who comes off as incredibly str... read more
I'm an English major and didn't have to do anything special to get admitted into my major. I was appointed an advisor for my major, and she was extremely helpful in helping me figure out what I needed to do my first semester. I'm also a secondary education minor, which is a bit different. I had to visit the secondary education advisor and get a slip to take to the Registrar's office in order to be officially a secondary education minor. There are some rules about being in the School of Education (you'll be teaching children... read more
One of the things that drew me to Marian in the first place was the campus when I came to visit. I love how it's smaller, and everything is very easy to get to. Although the walk from Doyle (where my dorm is) to Clare Hall (where the dinning hall is located) can sometimes seem longer when it's the middle of winter and freezing outside, I know that it's much better than it would be at most other colleges. Everything is very compact, and it takes almost no time at all to learn where each of the buildings are. None of them are ... read more
It's okay. When I was there, there weren't a lot of students walking around campus. If I did see anyone, even those whom I knew, I knew that all I would get would be a quick "hello" and they would be off to their next class. I was very lucky if anyone even spoke to me.
I always feel safe on Marian University's Campus. Nestled in our own little spot on the west side of Indianapolis, Marian provides the peace and safety of my own home in Southern Indiana. Dorms possess locked doors with admission to every floor through student IDs which especially gives me peace of mind. The police around campus are very present on campus as well in police cars and on bicycles. The only concern I have is there is only one blue-light phone on the entire campus. More of these emergency outlets would enhance th... read more
One can usually get just about any parking spot at Marian University. There is specific parking for students living on campus in certain dorms, commuter students, workers, and visitors. Since the campus is not very big, any parking spot is less than five minutes away from where a student would need to get to class. As our campus grows, the parking can be a bit of a headache around busy class times, but parking spaces are being added to the campus as well.
Student life on Marian's campus is vibrant, exciting, and growing. By January of 2014, there will be a new student center right next to the library which is going to be renovated soon as well. It's easy to get around campus as most buildings and dorms surround our quad with Marian's fountain at the center. Students and the community come to see our nationally ranked football team play in the fall. The student government holds multiples of events from formals to casino night to "What's up Wednesdays."
Indianapolis is the heart of Indiana. There are multiple college campuses within Indianapolis and larger Indiana colleges are just an hour or two away to visit friends! Throughout the year, Indianapolis has many events in which to attend like the Irish Fest and Indiana State Fair. Football season is incredibly exciting with the Colts home field downtown, and just last year the Super Bowl was held here! Indianapolis presented lifetime experiences as residents and college students like myself were able to work at the Super Bow... read more
